Staying with us at The Grassmarket View Apartment? Great news, we’ve curated a seamless itinerary for your stay. So please sit back, relax, and allow us to take control of the planning.

Our city-centred 1-bed apartment sleeps two people and is situated just down from Victoria Street and at the top of Grassmarket. It offers modern amenities and access to a variety of historical landmarks, such as Edinburgh Castle. Alongside this, an abundance of independent stores and vendors to discover. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite hotspots for your appetite, curiosity, and entertainment.

Food

Enjoy their delicious hog roast rolls curated for your preferred taste. Choose your size, Piglet, Oink or Grunter, alongside your bread, stuffing and of course, refreshing homemade sauces. If you take our word for it, try an Oink roll with haggis and chilli jam - delicious!

You can also find Oink on Hanover Street and Canongate, so wherever you are in the city, you don’t have to miss out.

The perfect brunch spot is also located on Victoria Street - a stone’s throw from where you stay. Whether you fancy a refreshing avocado on toast or a unique take on traditional breakfast, there’s something here for everyone.

Located at the bottom of Grassmarket, you will find one of Edinburgh’s most popular gelato bars. This vintage-inspired ice cream parlour is a hit amongst the locals and tourists with a variety of ever-changing flavours alongside staple favourites like vanilla.

They offer both cup and cone options, so you can curate your perfect gelato.

Explore

In a historic city like Edinburgh, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to exploring the cobbled streets. That's why we've picked some of our favourites, ensuring you don't miss the highlights.

Greyfriars kirkyard

Two headstones from Greyfriars Kirkyard.

One of Edinburgh’s most famous kirkyards, and home to the Greyfriars Bobby statue, alongside some very famous names. The graveyard (or kirkyard to the Scots) is said to have been the birthplace of inspiration for some of the most famous Harry Potter characters, like Tom Riddle. While these individuals have no direct relation to the character, you will find a few famous names throughout this historical yard.

After taking a stroll through the grounds, you can head into one of the few gift shops on your way back to Grassmarket and the Trans Real Fiction Bookshop, home to all things fantasy.

The Vennel Viewpoint

The vennel viewpoint overlooking Edinburgh Castle.

The Vennel will often be the location for many wedding photos and celebrations, especially during the summer months. If you’re looking for a tranquil setting, we recommend exploring the Vennel in the early mornings and evenings for maximum space.

On your way up from Grassmarket, make sure to check out the beautiful Cowgate Bridge, hidden around the corner from Victoria Street. If you’re after a unique, moody aesthetic, it’s the perfect spot to capture a photo or venture towards Holyrood Park.

Entertain

When it comes to entertainment in the city, the list is truly endless - but here are some of our favourites, guaranteed to enhance your stay with us.

  • The Scotch Whiskey Experience - Located at the top of the Royal Mile, showcasing a unique drinking experience that embraces Scottish heritage and culture.

  • Maison de moggy - A perfect spot for cat lovers and a good cup of coffee.

  • The Writer’s Museum - A free exhibition home to some of the most famous writings; Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott.
